2022 Cove School Summer Program

The Cove School Summer Program 2022

June 13 - July 19, 2022

Extended School Year (ESY) started on June 13, 2022, and welcomed 141 students for Cove’s summer school program, including over 20 students who were new to the program.

This year’s theme was, Book a Trip!

Literature guided our students through ESY 2022 as explored new learning opportunities and exciting class offerings. Literature provides an avenue for students to learn about themselves and others who may be different from them. Books foster social development, encourage creativity, provide an opportunity to form opinions and so much more. Additionally, the more students read, the better readers they become.

In addition to receiving highly individualized and multi-sensory reading instruction, Cove offered many courses and labs such as Mathematics, STEAM, Life Science, and Writing. Orton-Gillingham trained special education teachers at Cove and collaborated with the speech & language pathologists, occupational therapists, social workers, reading specialists, and Cove’s assistive technology specialist to provide lessons that addressed student needs and continued to support students toward meeting their IEP goals.

Students participated in the ESY workshops like Careers and Communities where they planned field trips and developed a larger understanding of maps and public transportation systems. When on field trips, students had opportunities for real-world experiences of eating out, shopping, and exploring sites. Other workshops included Cooking Plus, American Sign Language, Theatre Arts, Dance, and much more. There was an opportunity for everyone to learn while having a great time this summer at Cove.

Cove is incredibly thankful for the staff who tirelessly lead the way for our students to progress throughout the summer and regular school year. Our staff goes above and beyond for the amazing students who help our community shine brightly. Thank you!
