Annual Cove School 5K Run/Walk Supports Student Scholarships

The Cove School in Northbrook’s annual One Step at a Time 5K Race took place on Saturday, June 16 at Blue Star Memorial Woods in Glenview. Thanks to wonderful smiling volunteers working amidst the sticky heat and muddy fields, the race had a fabulous turnout and was a truly special morning. The annual run/walk fundraiser supports Cove’s Scholarship and Financial Aid fund for students with learning disabilities.

This special morning encourages Cove’s community of local businesses, corporate partners, families, and friends to come together and support Cove. Almost 250 runners participated in this year’s race. Over $16,000 was raised, with almost 60% of the total through corporate donations. The race provides Cove an opportunity to meet local businesses and runners from all over the greater Chicago area.

With another 3.1 miles in the books, Cove thanks their community for being with them every step of the way! A special shout out to the Young Professionals for Cove (YPC) who volunteer their time and effort. Cove especially wishes to thank this year’s chairs, Flannery and Maeve Donahue; the event would not have been such a success without their help coordinating.

Cove’s annual run/walk is designed to be an all-inclusive family and community event. Cove is a K-12 school that provides individualized education and life strategies for students with learning disabilities. Located in Northbrook, it serves over 160 students from over 60 districts throughout the greater Chicago area. At last year’s race, Cove welcomed runners and walkers of all ages from over 50 suburbs. Proceeds from the race help benefit Cove’s scholarship program.
