Cove Senior Cooks Up Zen Social Media Campaign

Cove Senior Cooks Up Zen Social Media Campaign

By Carli Kaufman

My name is Carli Kaufman. I am a senior here at Cove School. I have been at Cove since my freshman year. I am still very private about my disabilities, but I am learning to self-advocate for myself and make others aware of people with disabilities.

One of my independent living goals is to learn to cook. Cooking shows independence. It shows that we can begin to take care of ourselves. It’s hard! I’ve burned pans, I try to follow a recipe, sometimes I use too much or not enough salt; I’ve even set off the smoke alarm!

For people with disabilities, the struggle is real; some have limited vision or difficulty reading and understanding labels or recipes.  According to the most recent U.S Census, about 1 in 5 people in the U.S. have a disability. That’s about 50 million people!

The Zen of Slow Cooking provides people with disabilities the opportunity to create and cook meals in a slow cooker. The Zen of Slow Cooking brings organic spice blends to slow cookers. Each package includes 2 spice packets, enough to prepare 2 meals.

During the month of February and March, The Zen of Slow Cooking is teaming up with The Cove School to raise awareness. A percentage of each purchased order through the campaign “The Zen of Slow Cooking Supports Cove School” will go to support The Cove School.

So what are you waiting for? Support The Cove School and Put A Little Zen in Your Life!
