Doug the Pug Gets in the Cove Spirit

Doug the Pug Gets in the Cove Spirit

From Cove Teacher Regina Aniolowski:

For those of you that don't know him, Doug the Pug is a popular Pug on social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat).  His owner, Leslie Mosier began taking photos of him when she adopted him in 2012, just like any dog owner. Eventually, everyone loved Doug so much that he was featured in Cosmopolitan, TIME, Buzzfeed, Huffington Post, and Elite Daily.  His photos were even featured on Good Morning America. Doug has gotten so big, that his owner, Leslie, quit her job with a record label in Nashville to start the new job of managing her pug.  Her creativity is remarkable. Today, her and Doug travel the country taking photos and creating videos.  They attend big events and meet a variety of celebrities.  She posts photos and videos every day through social media.  He's a doggy celebrity.

Since the first day of school, my students' starting activity in my English class is to view the daily photo or video of Doug.  In 2nd period they write a sentence about what they see.  In 4th period they enhance the sentence to add rich language and details, making it more complex.

I contacted Leslie Mosier a couple of months ago to let her know how Doug was helping my students become better writers.  I gave her a bio of Cove and thanked her for what she was doing.  She asked me to send something that Doug could take a photo with.  My class sent Doug a Cove sweater and they each personalized a letter to the pug himself.

Leslie wrote back in an e-mail on Friday explaining that the letters meant so much to her and that they each made her cry.  She included the attached video and picture of Doug that made our English class jump and scream with joy this morning.

Enjoy!
