Cove Teacher is Surprised with "Hero in the Classroom" Award

September 2, 2014


Laura Silverberg was one of 16 K–12 teachers in the Chicago area who was honored for educational excellence in the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program during the 2014 NFL season. Laura was recognized in front of students and peers at a surprise in-school presentation. Cove received a $1,000 donation for classroom books and supplies. In addition, Laura received tickets to a Bears home game and was acknowledged during an on-field presentation at Soldier Field. Congratulations to Laura and Cove!

Summer STEAM Program Partners with Motorola Mobility Foundation

      Cove concluded its summer STEAM program today with a showcase of elementary, junior high and high school presentations. Throughout the course students worked collaboratively to solve real world problems with very exciting conclusions. Motorola employee volunteers along with parents and family members were very impressed by what was presented. 

Cove Graduation

June 6, 2014


The Class of 2014's graduation ceremony took place on June 6th at Cove. The following are some of the post-secondary programs that Cove students will be attending next year: The University of Wisconsin - White Water, Indiana University, Southern Illinois University, City Colleges of Chicago, College of Lake County, University of South Carolina, as well as Military Service. Several students will continue their education at a transition program through their public high schools.

Cove's 16th Annual Career Day

      On Thursday, March 13, 2014, The Cove School welcomed nineteen professionals who  came and spoke to students about their careers in small classroom settings. Some of the professions that were represented included Police Officer, EMTs, Veterinarian, Fireman, Hair Dresser,  Fish Monger, Disc Jockey and Army Specialist.   

Cove Celebrates Donors From Cove@65 Campaign

On the evening of Thursday, October 3, Cove celebrated the conclusion of its Cove@65Campaign which raised over $1.45 million for the school. Donors gathered to see the new donor wall, wall mural and flat panel television installed in the front lobby. The Cove choir performed and two Cove students spoke to guests about how Cove has affected their lives.
Astellas Comes to Cove as Part of Their "Changing Tomorrow Day"

Over 100 volunteers from Astellas Pharma brought “magic” to the halls of The Cove School.  Through a partnership with local non-profit Chicago Cares, and as a part of their “Changing Tomorrow Day,”  Astellas volunteers spent the day beautifying and enhancing the grounds of The Cove School.

The volunteers painted soccer and football lines on an athletic field recently donated with a grant from the Astellas USA Foundation. Volunteers also created an outdoor classroom, and painted interactive games on the blacktop. New benches were built in the front of the building as a place for students to sit as they wait for rides home from school. Astellas volunteers also created mosaic stepping stones to be placed in the Cove Grove and mosaic art for the lunchroom. 

Cove Interns Serve Ice Cream to Community

July 24, 2013
  On Wednesday, July 24th, the third annual "Bobtail Night" took place at the Bobtail Ice Cream Shop in Wilmette. Four Cove student interns worked from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm serving ice cream to Cove families, staff members and the Wilmette community. All of their training has paid off, as they were well versed in all aspects of service. A portion of the evenings proceeds were donated to Cove. 

Ribbon Cutting for Cove's New Track 
July 10, 2013
On Wednesday, July 10th, Cove Celebrated the inauguration of its new track and field donated by The Astellas USA Foundation with a ribbon cutting ceremony. The event was attended by Cove students, and staff, by Illinois State Senators Julie Morrison and Daniel Biss, along with several representatives from the Astellas USA Foundation. Charizma provided entertainment, and students walked or ran around the completed track!

Cove Career Day
March 14, 2012

On March 14, Cove hosted it's annual Career Day with over twenty careers categories represented.  The day concluded with guest speaker Jerry Markbreit, NFL referee.

Elementary Showcase

The Cove School Elementary classes performed this year's annual play entitled "We Haz Jazz" in both day and evening performances for students and parents.
